While pondering good things to write, I've begun the process forcing my Narcissus bulbs again.   I didn't do the wholesale order this year as last year my bulbs did not arrive until the end of September/beginning of October.  This would be fine for standard fall planting... but it means that I can't have daffs for Christmas (which is what I want).  I've gotten an earlier start this year.  And unlike last year where I forced bulbs from all 13 Horticultural Narcissus Divisions, this year I'm going down a different road.  You see, last season I overstood the mark.  Too many varieties to comfortably manage in a construction site.  We live.  We learn.  I still have MOST of the varieties from last year, but I'll not reforce them.  The following list is just a listing of flowers to bloom this winter.

Nomenclature within genus Narcissus is a bit tricky - (take a look at this interesting document: Botanical names in the genus Narcissus (Reprinted from The International Daffodil Register 1998 (Updated 12 September 2006)) - so I'll use the accepted "DIV-COLOR-COLOR" form here (check it out).

As of this writing, I have several varieties chilling:

1 Trumpet Daffodil	None
2 Large-cupped Daffodil	'Flower Record' 2-W–YYO
3 Small-cupped Daffodil	None
4 Double Daffodil	'Bridal Crown' 4-W-Y I believe this would be a Division 8 Narcissus (The Tazetta Daffs) if it weren't a double. It is floriferous and fragrant. But, alas, as "double" it falls into Division 4. I understand this beauty to be particularly fragrant. Narcissus 'White Medal' 4-W-W (Again... new bulbs.) The doubles have atendency to blow out if everything isn't exactly right (moisture, temperature).    This is to say that buds are pruduced but flowers do not come.  I will keep trying until I get this right.

^†There seems to be some confusion about this one.  DaffSeek shows Curlew as 7-W-W... but the photo above the box of bulbs from whence I picked shows something else entirely.  We'll see.

I hope you'll post photos of your bulbs of 'Curlew' when they bloom. I'd like to compare them with what's shown on DaffSeek.
